Welcome to probably the best 3D first person game, I personally think
there is.
This game can be played, using many, many different methods of strategies.
Listed here is one I use for a three button mouse: Home = Forward....
End = Backwards.... Del = Left Strafe.... PageDown = Right Strafe.... \ = Night Vision....
KeyPad Del = QuickKick.... Insert = ShotGun .... PageUp = RPG .... KeyPad #1 = Pistol ....
KeyPad #2 = PipeBombs .... KeyPad #4 = Chaingun .... KeyPad #7 = ShrinkRayGun .... KeyPad
#8 = DevastaterGun .... KeyPad #5 = Mouse Aiming.... T = Transmit Message.... NumLock =
Laser Trip Bombs.... U = Weapon Mode.... I = Cross Hairs (toggle switch.... P = Auto Run
Mode.... Enter = Steroids.... KeyPad #0 or Ins = Open and MedKit .... Right Arrow =
Inventory (right or left).... V = Coop View....M = Map .... BackSpace = JetPack ....
Mouse Settings are....Left Button = Fire....Middle Button = Jump....Right Button =
Crouch....Double Click Left Button = Medkit....Double Click Middle Button = MedKit
....Double Click Right Button = HoloDuke Index
Speed of the mouse is important. I was once told, to go to Windows
Control Panel, to Mouse and set the speed all the way up, and with no acceleration...I
dont really know how much this effects the mouse, but it does...Check it out and
experiment with it.
In mouse configuration, notice sensitivity, it is factory set at 1.0, experiment with it,
move it up and down.....When you start the gameplay, you will very noticeably see the
decrease or increase the mouse speed.... In Advanced Mouse Settings, experiment with the
settings of both, turning and moving axes...I have turning set at 2.75 and moving set at
.80, this may not be for you... It allows the mouse to turn your duke character, much
faster, than factory settings will.
While playing the game of Duke, you can decrease the sensitivity of the mouse, from
Options... To access Options, press escape, highlight options, see mouse, left or right
arrow to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the mouse. Index
For Internet play, such as on Kali servers, the more memory you have
free the better the game will run. Causing less lag also. In Duke setup, in Screen Setup,
select the 320 X 200 (Normal Mode). You will lose some clairidy, not much tho. The reason,
is to increase the frame refresh rate, which in turn will allow your duke game to run
faster, causing less latency.
To further free up memory, when in the game, press escape, select options, leave detail on
high, turn off shadows, screen tilting, in Sounds turn off, music, duke talk and ambience
. Leave sounds turned on. Index
One of the best teaching tools is demos. A demo, is a recording, that
someone has made of him and other players...You and a friend can make a demo, or can
download demos, from various web sites. Index
To watch a demo, it must be named demo1.dmo The factory sent two demos,
already installed in software of duke...The present demo1.dmo file, must be
renamed....Using Windows Explorer, find the folder, that you installed Duke Nukem to. High
light the folder, then click open. Find the file named demo1.dmo, high light it, right
click on it, click rename, type in a new name, hit enter...It is then saved as that
file... Using the same procedure, now rename the demo you want to watch, to demo1.dmo
...When done watching, rename it back, to save it. Index
To watch a demo, start duke from the windows desk top, like you
normally would do, to play by your self. When the game starts, you will be watching the
demo....Press escape, to close the menu, sit back and watch. As the red player is
defaulted as the primary view, you can press coop view key, default is K, and see through
the other players eyes, pressing it repeatedly, to view each of the other players... Index
You can also make a recording, of your self and a friend. There are two
methods, to make a demo. One, is Modem to Modem. Calling someone directly , to play modem
to modem, using duke setup. After connection is made, and the game is loading, it will
stop at New Game. At this screen, highlight Options, see record at the bottom of the list.
It indicates, that record is in off mode...Highlight record and enter to change off, to on
mode...Escape and start game as normal... The game is then being recorded as the game is
being played... Do not exit the level, as this will stop the recording process. If the
game is restarted, a new demo is also started, writing over what was previously
recorded...So if a game freezes while making a demo, and you want the demo, that was being
recording, you must before continuing, quit, rename the demo, then start a new game. Index
Two: A demo can be recorded using Kali95...At the bottom of the Kali
screen to the right of the red and blue launch rocket, are icons, for the games that you
have on your computer. Do not use the red and blue rocket, later versions of Kali95 does
not allow the use of the record argument...Use the black and yellow radiation icon, to
start setup for Duke Nukem... Select Netgame...Set number of players to the exact amount
of players that will be playing. Socket Number, this is any four digit number, and can be
any set of four numbers, (1111 - 1919 - 1234 and etc.) All players must the same identical
number. Change the number, enter to save and escape. Highlight save and launch, then
enter.
When the game is loaded, to start record, use the same procedure as for modem to
modem...Remember, if you did not rename the present demo1.dmo, that is in the duke folder,
it will erased, to record the new demo. Index
To record, using a user map, the name of the user map must be selected
from setup...C:/Duke3d>setup.exe - Use arrow keys to scroll down to User Level...Enter
to see a pop up list of use levels.
Scroll down, find and highlight the level to be used.
All players must select the same user map, before launching...When the game is loaded, and
record is turned on, then the master player highlights, Start User Level, then presses
enter... The other player/players must wait for master to start. NOTE: The Duke Setup, Select User Level, will not display more than forty levels.
If you could not find the user level (map)from the user map list, in setup...Use Windows
Explorer to check and make sure the map is currently in the Duke3d folder.
If the map does exist, check to see how many maps are currently in the Duke3d folder.
If you have more than forty maps, currently in the Duke3d folder, here is solution...1.
Make a new folder called Dukemaps, move maps to new folder till there are less than forty
maps in the Duke3d folder...Or you may delete maps you no longer want. Index
To watch a demo, recorded using a user level, must be started from Duke
Setup.exe
The demo must be named demo1.dmo....Explained in (How to Rename a Demo
Start C:\Duke>Setup.exe, use arrow keys to scroll down and highlight User Level...Enter
to open, browse through the list and high-light the same name the user demo was made with.
Enter to select, then escape, arrow down to save and launch.
The game will start in the user level, with monsters...Press escape to see the
menu...Arrow down to and high light Quit to Title...Press enter
When the game starts the demo will be running...Sit back and watch, using -- K -- the
default key for coop view...to toggle between the players view.
When you are done watching, if you want to keep that demo, it must be renamed something
other than demo1.dmo. Index
Thats all for now, but a lot more to come.
I hope you found something here, that you can use.
Thanks
