Q: Is The Great TaCo anything like The Great Pumpkin? A: No, but good question. Q: So what IS The Great TaCo? A: The Great TaCo is The Almighty Config Of... You guessed it! (Well, actually you didn't, but this is all a clever ploy to insert subliminal messages into your thought patterns, so just go along with it.) NoiD! Q: Is this the same NoiD I have a shrine to in my room? A: Most likely, yes. Q: What will The Great TaCo do for me? A: Assist you in your Quake-playing. Q: Must you always be so un-specific? A: Yes. Q: Make the hurting stop! A: Uhh... That wasn't a question. Q: I know! I didn't tell you to put it with the Q&A! A: That wasn't a question, either. Q: AAAAAAAAAGH! A: I can put that with a question mark when I type this up if you want me to, but it still wouldn't make any sense. Q: No, that's okay. But what SPECIFICALLY will The Great TaCo do for me? A: Okay, fine. The Great TaCo consists of several toggles for the server to use (or you to use in a single-player game), as well as quite a few toggles for clients to use (which also work in single-player games). The modes included in The Great TaCo are as follows: Server: NoExit - Allows you to disable/re-enable exiting of levels. With this on, anyone who tries to leave the level will simply die. Pause - Allows you to disable/re-enable pausing. With this off, nobody will be able to pause the game. Friction Switch - Fun, fun, fun little switch between several modes of friction (as described here): Ice Mode - Players slide around as if on ice (the solid form of water, not the drug) Sandpaper Mode - Kinda like those sticky mouse traps, but not as sticky Weird Mode - Try this one on for size... Hard to get used to Normal Mode - Duh... Gee, Boss. What's this button do? Gravity Switch - Not QUITE as fun, fun, fun little switch between several modes of gravity (as described here): Moonshoes Mode - A little more spring to your jump LockDown Mode - No way to go but down (can't even go up stairs) Normal Mode - If you don't know, you don't deserve to know Steroids Toggle - Remember the steroids from Duke3d? Everyone: FreeAim - I didn't have this one togglable, because I didn't see a point to turning it off. It simply makes it so you can aim at any height and hit something that's in front of you. For instance, if you walk up to an exploding box and look towards it and, without turning left or right, look up or down so you're not aimed at it, then shoot, you'll hit it. This is true even if the box is at a different level from you, as long as you have a straight shot at it. Flashlight - Only works in single-player, but it's still pretty kewl X-Ray - See through some walls, etc. LookLock - (aka Freelook) Ghost - No idea why you'd want to use this one, but it makes other players, items, weapons, and some being-used ammo (like rockets and lightning) invisible to you. PlainTex - Turns all textures into solid colors. At first I thought it just looked kewl, but then I realized it doesn't draw in the shadows, so this is great for finding someone who is hiding :) Circle Strafe - Move in a circle while still facing the same point Crosshair Toggle - I usually leave this one on, but hey... SOMEone must not like 'em. Wideview - With wideview on, you can see more without turning... Shrooms - Not very helpful, but the idea's still a good one :) Q: That's better. A: And that's not a question, either. Q: AGH! Urdle murther. Okay. I'll just ignore that. Now. What keys are all of these bound to? A: Allow me to say this nice little table to you. (In case you haven't figured it out by now, none of these questions or answers really happened.): Mode ³ Key ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍØÍÍÍÍÍ NoExit ³ E Pause ³ P Friction ³ F Gravity ³ G Steroids ³ R ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÅÄÄÄÄÄ Flashlight ³ Y X-Ray ³ X LookLock ³ L Ghost ³ H PlainTex ³ Q Circle Strafe Right ³ M Circle Strage Left ³ N Crosshairs ³ I Wideview ³ W Shroom ³ S Q: Cool. Thanks. And how do I install The Great TaCo? A: What I don't understand is how you were smart enough to get The Great TaCo from wherever you got it from and not know how to install it. For this, I smite thee. Q: Did you take Shrooms Mode a little bit too seriously? A: One can never consider shrooms as serious. They should be thought of as objects of beauty.
