21/5/98 ================================================================ Title : Sandstorm Filename : rcdm4.bsp Author : Robert "Fat Controller" Cruickshank Email Address : crescendo@xtra.co.nz Description : Yellowy textured construction under a bright, cloudless sky. The texture set made me think of a desert scene, hence the name. Also far more "designed" than my other released maps, and I have the blunted pencils and graph paper to prove it! Consists basically of a grand spiral around a central three-story atrium, but messed up a little. :) Note: This is the new GL-friendly version. The original had a few clashing texture names, but I fixed those. Player Load : 4 in FFA (6 max), good too for 1-on-1. Additional Credits : - The dudes behind the Omicron Bots - Axl for his textures (cf. Opiate's Texture Warehouse at PlanetQuake) - Ben Morris for Worldcraft shareware - I'll register, I pwomise! :*) ================================================================ * Play Information * Single Player : No (except for testing) Cooperative : No Deathmatch : Yes (8?) Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : Yes; either Axl's work (rcdmaxl*) or modified by me. Quad niche) tend to induce chugging when looking out at the central atrium. (but what're you doin' starin' at the scenery with a Quad a-wastin'?) : The wind tunnel leading up to the GL room is a great place for putting a grenade (not sure if this is a bug though). : Gun rocket jumpers can get the Quad a bit easier than other guys. : The wind tunnel in the RL room seems to jam the player against the surround sometimes; only thing you can do is put up a vigorous defence. (Still, it's one way of paying back Rocket Lovers.) Build Time : About half a month. I have other things on the boil. Compile machine : Compaq Presario 2200 (Cyrix MGX-166, 30MB RAM) (That's right: *30* megs! Compaq dedicates 2 megs for video, but it still manages to get away with saying 16 megs in the ads. In short: I ain't no Bario.) QBSP Time : 1 minutes 17 seconds Light Time : 8 minutes 53 seconds. IKLITE's timer isn't very precise. VIS (-level 4) Time : 2 minutes 12 seconds on RVIS Brushes : 530 Entities : 148 Models : 6 average leafs visible : 84 * Notes * That bright cloudless sky is actually a func_illusionary with a fullbright blue texture with a standard id sky above. I had to pull this stunt because all my attempts at brand new skies kept crashing the game :( Again, this is a re-release. The main differences are that: 1. I lit the thing with Tyrlite, not IKLite; 2. The teleports are completely overhauled; 3. The SSG is now an SNG, the old SNG is now a GL, and the old GL is now an RL; 4. The LG room has been diddled a bit to get rid of an annoying vis error. * How to Use * Extract the BSP to ID1/MAPS as per usual, and run it from the console a la MAP RCDM4. After this disgusting soiree you will be slipped over to DM6.
