================================================================================================= Title : S.E.T.I.X Tower (for Quake II) v.1.20 Filename : STower.bsp Author : Juan Jose Galvez, with help from Pedro Lorca Email Adress : jegalvez@arrakis.es (Comments welcome! Please send them in!) Description : Hi! I hope that since you're reading this that you have downloaded : my map. If not, please do :-) : Officialy, this is my third map for Quake II. If you've seen some of : my previous maps then you probably know that I try to make them original, : although I do take some elements from other maps. : I suppose this is the most realistic of the maps I've made, and the one : with the best atmosfear. If you've been wondering, S.E.T.I.X stands for : Space Exploration Tower (S.E.T), series 9 (I.X). Basically, they are : towers used for deep space exploration of planets and asteroids. In this : case the tower stands on an asteroid, with the objective of mining the : strange mineral within. It has 4 stories, each one unique (an agri-dome, : sort of, for food, a warehouse...). Also a cave zone with mining equipment : and mineral, and on top the landing pad with a spaceship. : I had a bit of difficulty trying to make the level playable since : the tower is completely vertical, but in the end I believe the : communication between all the floors has been nicely done :-) : (Check for yourself!) : OK, so much for the description. Now i'm gonna say some useful info. : (If you'd like to find it out for yourself then don't read this). : First of all, in the cavern there is a button. If you press it you'll : turn on the drill thing, causing a terrible earthquake (ok, it's not : terrible but it's heard throughout the level and sometimes it can : push you to your death, hahaha). Anyway, the rocks will sink temporarily, : and you won't be able to get the shield. Second, if you want the BFG : you'll have to take a trip through the warehouse first :-). On the : second floor study well both lifts as well as the teleports and : platforms. The same goes for all the teleports in the level. Don't : fall off to space, and lastly you can also go down ladders (duh!) NOTE: For the first time I have had problems with the number of entities. I suppose this is my biggest level and I seemed to have reached the entity limit. I know there has to be a limit but I just can't believe that I've reached it. So I had to take some stuff out. In the end however I think it's turned out good. Additional Credits to : id Software for such a great game of course, Tim Wright for ArghRAD, Pedro Lorca for his help (ideas, lots of prefabs, most of the first floor, the asteroid was also his idea, done by him). And the Eraser Bots for some testing. Thanks! Recommendations : For this map I really recommend a good 3D accelerator as well as a good : processor. The dome really sucks a lot of speed and besides that you : shouldn't have a lot of problems (but don't look into open areaportals : !!!) If it's too slow, sorry. I'll try to optimize speed a little : more in the next version. ================================================================================================ ============ Installation ============ Unzip with the folder name option to the quake2 directory. In game, type at the console. I've also included a path file for the eraser bots. Don't unzip it if you think you can do better. I won't say it's nicely done since it's not. * Play Information * Single Player : Just for checking it out. Cooperative : Nope Deathmatch : Yes! I can't say how much players. A number of 12 seems to be a good : limit. CD Track : Track 7... I think :) Player Spawn Points : Because of the "entity problem" 7 spawn points, although I think it's : enough. Check for yourself :) Weapons & Powerups : They're all there except for the shotgun. Then there's the power shield : the Quad, the bandolier, some armor and a silencer. Ambient Sounds : I couldn't put any because of the entity problem. Although I've noticed : that ambient sounds in deathmatch are mostly never heard (really!) Bots : I've played with the Eraser Bots. They play well enough, but in the : end the level is too complex. Still, it's great fun. : As I said, I've included a path file for the Eraser Bots. It's not : perfect but try it if you want. * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Finish Date : October 4, 1998 Current Revision : October 4, 1998. Version 1.10 It may not be the definitive version since : there are still some bugs I have to fix. Editor(s) used : B.S.P. Version 93b 32 bit Known bugs : The pipes don't have very nice edges. Then there's the "entity prob"... : .... Ok! right now i've forgotten but I know that there are more. Build Time : Two weeks more or less. Much less work time (a week maybe). QBSP3 Time : 35 seconds QVIS3 Time : 2566 seconds QRAD3 Time : 2891 seconds (Total: An hour and a half +-) Computer used : Pentium II 300 Mhz with 64 Mb de RAM * Copyright / Permissions * This level is copyright 1998 by Juan Jose Galvez.
