================================================================ Title : AOD Sounds for QuakeWorld (and Quake) Filename : AOD4QW.ZIP Author(s) : GanGrene AKA Pete Rondeau Email Address : prondeau@netcom.ca Description : A compilation of sampled sounds from Army of Darkness and a couple from Evil Dead, closely approximating the old sound .wad file that i used to play with doom. Plop it into \quake\id1 and your all set. See the comments if you have more than 2 .pak files there. Additional Credits to : iD Software for Wolf 3D, Doom, DoomII and Quake The kind generous persons that sampled and posted all kinds of Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead sound effects to cdrom.com Syntrillium Software for Cool Edit Ashley Bone for PakExplorer Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi for the Evil Dead (I and II) and Army Of Darkness. Cooperative 1-32 Player : I suppose so. Deathmatch 2-32 Player : Definitely! The reason i made it. Works in QuakeWorld as well as quake... maybe even glquake ;-) Comments : After years of Single Player and DeathMatch doom with AOD.WAD, i missed the lines from Bruce Campbell and the sound effects that were so entertaining. After downloading a couple of AOD sound add-ons from cdrom.com i found none of them altogether appealing, particularly one with a homer simpson sample mixed in. I like The Simpsons as much as the next guy, but not added to bruce campbell and the evil dead movies. So i downloaded all the aod/evil dead sounds i could grab and spent a few hours figuring out what soundfiles were used in DeathMatch. After running through several hundred sound samples, i selected these and plugged 'em into a pak file for ya. PG! - There's a couple of words in this pakfile that kids have heard in the schoolyard, so you parents have now officially be informed :-) As an added bonus, this sound add-on also works in Single Player mode, and is quite amusing. Seems many of the player death sounds are also emitted by the monsters as well. If your running multiple .PAK files in your id1 folder, rename this pakfile to the last digit used. i.e. And not! pak0.pak pak0.pak pak1.pak pak1.pak pak2.pak pak9.pak <-- AOD sounds. pak3.pak <--- AOD Sounds. This Works This doesn't. It has to be the last digit from 0-9 after the previous pakfile. Read that again. It'll sink in. :-) If you spectate a game with this sound add-on you'll notice the power-ups have noticeable sounds (as in Regular Quake) and the sounds are synchronized to end when the power up ends. * Construction * Base : n/a Build Time : a few hours Times & stats : System Used : AMD 486-133 with an 8-bit mono sound card. I know, you think it sucks :-( Qbsp : n/a Vis (-level 4) : n/a Light (-extra) : n/a Brushes : n/a entities : n/a miptex : n/a Texture WAD used: Nope Editor(s) used : Cool Edit, PakExplorer Known Bugs : Some samples were merged with originals so they may confuse you briefly. One sample from AOD ("I never even SAW these assh*les before"), was cut to a shorter length and resampled because the full length version drowned out most other sounds during DM and we can't have that. This sound-on may also confuse you abit if you use it while using other mods, i.e. Artifact Quake, Painkeep, Requiem etc. If you can get used to it fine. If not, you'll have to figure out how to disable it. It *was* designed for DeathMatch. * Legal Stuff * -------------------------- If you want to muck around with this file do whatever you like. If you send this sound add-on to friends via Internet/BBS/Floppy disk, please leave this zipfile intact. It'll keep multiple versions from floating around like beta software (ick!). The sound samples in this archive and .PAK file are from their respective copyrighted movies. If you distribute them on a CD Rom or other commercial means you may be violating those copyrights. I'm not responsible for their or your actions. In other words, don't come to me if someone decides to sue you.
