                                                        Bevels

Bevels are used on many structures to replace square corners with nice, smooth
corners to make the structure look less dull, and more natural. Start off by
making a gap to later accommodate the bevel (1x1x1h Major Grid Units)

Create a 1x1x1h (MGUnits) brush and click on Curve/Bevel.

                                                    Top View

                                                    Front View

You should now just have a curve, but no top and bottom surfaces. Add the caps
to it by clicking on Curve/Cap/Normal and choose the Bevel option.

You will notice that the top and bottom surfaces don't show properly because
they are facing the wrong way. We have to invert the meshes.

ALT-SHIFT-Click on the top surface (in 3D View), until the top mesh is selected,

and click on Curve/Matrix/Invert . Apply the texture that you want and then select
CAP in Surface Properties ('S') to set the texture properly.

Now invert the bottom surface, but give it the common/nodraw texture, as it will
never be seen in the game (in this example anyway).

Select the curve now (multiple ALT-SHIFT-Click's), and apply the texture you want,
and select Natural in Surface Properties so that the texture fits the curve correctly.

Place the bevel into the gap you created earlier and there you go! A smooth corner!
Note that bevels do not close off the map. This problem is explained and resolved at
the end of the Inverted Bevels Tutorial . Here is my final product:
