Oz Deathmatch v1.2

Oz Deathmatch

v 1.2

Oz only runs on version 1009 of Half Life or newer.
===================================================

Oz is a server side multiplayer mod for Valve's Half Life. No files are necessary for clients to play. Simply log onto an Oz server.

Oz features an immense amount of customizability due to the use of .cfg files. Simply change the values in the Oz.cfg file to have them take effect. With the config file you can change MANY things, including damage amounts, max ammo/health/armor, and the ability to disable/enable weapons in your server. You can even select what each player should start with in their inventory. All standard features of Half Life are supported except single player. All the variables are also accessible in game, just type the variable you want to change with the according numeric value following it. Almost all changes will take effect immediately, but some things that have to do with the player, like their max health or charge, won't take effect until they die.

Additionally, Oz has an offhand grappling hook used with the command, "+hook". Simply bind this to a key once you join a server.

Example:

Pull down the console and type, "bind <key> +hook". Of course replace <key> with any key on your keyboard. Now pressing and HOLDING that key will fire the grapple, releasing it will release the grapple.

Special Additions for v1.2:

Night Ops mode: An optional "lights out" mode has been added for all the night owls out there! While night ops is active the light level will be almost completely dark and battery power for flashlights will not drain. Look out for those snipers!

Optional Silenced MP5: Toggleable with a console variable, this switches the MP5 over to a silenced mode. The sounds are different and the muzzle flash and volume are smaller.

Blood: As many people noticed in earlier versions of Oz, there was no blood! This has been rectified and now Oz is as gory as ever.

Grappling Hook Effects: The grappling hook has a new effect that is less laggy for people with slower internet connections. Instead of having a cable directly attached to the player and hook, it now glows and has a green fading trail.

Weapon Autoswitch: A new console variable has been added that allows the toggling of weapon autoswitching.

New Settings.scr File: The new settings.scr file that is included let's the server make changes within Half Life itself, instead of using the Oz.cfg file. The settings are changed in Half Life in the Advanced menu for setting up a server. That menu will ALWAYS over-ride the values in the Oz.cfg file if you're running a normal server. The Oz.cfg file will be used with listen (dedicated) servers. If you wish for the Oz.cfg file to ALWAYS have the used settings, replace the settings.scr file with the one from the Valve folder in your Half-Life directory.

Observer Mode: Upon entering a game a player will be in observer mode. He/she will be invisible and able to fly around, watching the action. If the player hits the +attack key or +use key they will spawn in and can begin playing.

Bug Fixes that are new for v1.2:

Rpg no longer has a problem with reloading after a rocket has exploded in a transition (like air to water).

Rpg click sounds play much slower, reducing lag, while a rocket is in the air and the +attack key is still being held.

Hand Grenade damage cvar is fixed, no longer set to 100 all the time.

Disabling the m203 grenade launcher on the mp5 is now accomplished by setting the max_m203 variable to zero. Otherwise a bug occurs where normal handgrenade will float if the m203 grenades are disabled.

Reloading bugs with all weapons besides the MP5 are fixed (that have magazines). These originally occured if the magazine size was set higher than normal, but you had the original amount of ammo in your magazine. It would refuse to reload up to the maximum amount.

Grappling while dead is now fixed. Some users had found a way to grapple while dead, making themselves invincible and still killing players. Now the grappling hook does no damage and it release upon impact with a player.

Door sounds repeating problems are now fixed. Originally a blocked door would keep repeating the sound after the door was unblocked.

Blood now works correctly (as mentioned above).

Note: the included Oz shortcut probably needs to be modified based on your system (IF you want to use the shortcut). Currently, it will look for the hl.exe in c:\sierra\half-life. Just right click the shortcut and pick properties, than edit the command line for hl.exe. Everything else in that line MUST stay the same, otherwise the mod will not be loaded. If this mod was installed through half life, you can "activate" it on the custom game menu.

Installation: Unzip the Oz12.zip into your Half-Life directory. Let it overwrite anything it warns you about. It will make it's own Oz folder and all the needed files are included inside. Use the -game oz command to set up a server, and refer to http://www.planethalflife.com for server settings. If previous versions of Oz (1.0 or earlier) exist on your computer, DELETE THE OZ.INI FILE. The Oz.cfg file is what the game will read. There are new variables in the v1.2 Oz.cfg file, so make sure you add them to your older v1.1 Oz.cfg file if you do not want to lose your settings.

Included files and their directory structure after installation:

Half-Life/Oz/dlls/mp.dll
Half-Life/Oz/autoexec.cfg
Half-Life/Oz/game.cfg
Half-Life/Oz/listenserver.cfg
Half-Life/Oz/readme.txt
Half-Life/Oz/oz.cfg
Half-Life/Oz/server.cfg
Half-Life/Oz/liblist.gam
Half-Life/Oz/custom.hpk
Half-Life/Oz/settings.scr
Half-Life/Oz/motd.txt
Half-Life/Oz/mapcycle.txt
Half-Life/Oz/OZ.LNK (shorcut)
Half-Life/Oz/OZDS.LNK (shortcut)

Custom config files: If you'd like to make your own seperate customized config files for Oz without constantly changing the Oz.cfg file every time follow these directions:

1. Copy and past the Oz.cfg file, then rename it accordingly.
2. Make the changes to your custom config file and save it.
3. At the bottom of the Oz.cfg file you'll find a line that looks like this: //exec realism.cfg. Uncomment it (remove the //) and put the name of your config file in place of the "realism.cfg".

Now Oz will execute your config file after the Oz.cfg file, putting your changes in place. This makes it easier for you to have more than one config file. You can do things like realism configs that only have realistic weapons with higher damage values, or explosive configs where everyone only has use of explosive weapons.
