Society absorbed this means of entertainment quickly, almost naturally. Then came Dukematch... a totally new level of intensity was brought to the battle field. Oh sure, others tried to follow with this, some of these attempts to one up the world's new blood sport caused quakes in some places. However, in the search for the ever perfect realm for battle, the world turned back to Dukematch. People wanted to bring it to a new level, bring it into their homes. Leaders of the world united, deciding to answer the cries of the people and brought Dukematch to every home on the planet. In order to do this though, they needed one central arena to stage these magnificent showcases. Bringing in the biggest names of arena development... Robert Travis (who had sealed his fame by designing AnslemX for Timothy Edward Newton... President of the free world at the time), Matthew Harris, Andrew Smith, Tempest, RockSockm, and others. These great designers slaved for months, each to develop the perfect arena, with just the right balance and play to entertain the hordes of people who would watch the battles. One little guy, off in the corner, whom no one had heard of, was working on his own little arena. These other designers scoffed as they passed by him, looked down upon his dreary... gray level. Lord how they intimidated him, pressured him. But he kept on designing, kept on working... late into the night, after everyone else had gone home to sleep. The day came, when each designer presented their masterpieces to the leaders. Each one, impressed a few people, but the leaders were beginning to become worried, nothing fit what they wanted. Each designer, crushed... knowing they had failed. Matt Harris became so despondent, that he moved to the USA, changed his name to Brad Wernicke, and started his own web site business. Of course, he was never there, always AWAY. The leaders got to the end of the row, to the last person there. The people cried out "Who the heck is he!?!?!" Many laughed, but the guy just stood there... strong, confident in himself. The leaders sighed, and went ahead and reviewed the arena. As each minute passed, they became more and more excited... "This is it! This is what we were looking for!" Joe Wilcox, whose design had been dismissed as too Christmasish ran over to look at what had come from this nobody. The masses began to cheer and the leaders knew they had found their new arena! For the next twenty years, this arena staged the most magnificent battles ever seen on screen. Millions of people watched, laughed, cried, and had a grand time. War rose to a new level... rather than killing soldiers... nations fought it out in this arena... everyone everywhere could watch the "new" wars being fought in the comfort of their own home. All thanks to "The Haven". There now, don't you feel better about the violence in games today. :)
