To my surprise, that modest assemblage of levels received high acclaim from WAD authors and DOOM fanatics from around the world. Well, perhaps the levels weren't modest. They actually boasted quality and design elements paralleled only by Id's originals. The goal all along was to create levels with the same feel and complexity found in Knee Deep In the Dead, while still giving everything a fresh, unique appeal. From the overwhelming positive feedback I've received over the years, I think it's safe to say that I was successful in doing what I had intended. Description =========== Deathmatch Fava is a mini-episode composed of four levels from Fava Beans, remastered to take advantage of Legacy DOOM enhancements. There are no monsters - these levels are purely for deathmatch. The links to Hangar 18 and Shadows of Darkness are pre-Fava DOOM2 versions - originally I did not think that I would ever design enough levels to compile an entire episode, so I distributed everything on an individual basis. For example, "Gaspra Armory." Gaspra is an asteroid. Asteroids are typically very small. So small and lacking mass, that they are held together by electrostatic forces, not gravitational. Therefore, the surface would be very loosely packed, and you'd probably have a difficult time finding firm ground to stand, much less walk on. Further, an athletic run and jump (well, if you could perform such an act given the surface conditions) could quite possibly exceed the escape velocity. All things considered, it is unlikely that you'd find any kind of an Armory on Gaspra. This also holds true for the Martian satellite Phobos (remember Phobos Lab in the original DOOM?). But, it's a game, so forget I said anything. Final Words =========== If you enjoy Deathmatch Fava, feel free to send mail to sbirke61@maine.edu.
