GUY2PLY2 - Guy To Player (version 2) - for Doom2 v1.9 Sort of simulated Deathmatch where the monsters have been changed to player Marines. NOTE: GUY2PLY2 can also be used with Doom or Ultimate Doom with a simple change - see below. This is an updated and legalized version of GUY2PLYR.ZIP Original author: Mark Hatton Version 2 Update: Sparky of KISS Software kelm@eisa.net.au Mods made by Sparky of KISS Software: - the original version contained an illegal modified doom2.exe. I reverse-engineered this exe file to create an equivalent .deh patch (for Doom2 v1.9) using DeHackEd v3.1. - appended the how_2.txt file on to the end of this document. - converted the external lmp demo to lmp version 1.9 but the demo would not run synchronously. So I created a new demo using Doom2 v1.9 (this demo is just in single-player mode, but it shows me getting 100% kills on Ultra Violence). The new demo is now internal to the wad, so to watch it just run the game as you normally would, select "END GAME", the Title Screen will appear, and the demo will start automatically). - I created a response file because the number of commands required to run GUY2PLY2 is a bit large. To play GUY2PLY2 with 'Plain Vanilla' Doom2 you'll need to create a replacement doom2.exe using guy2ply2.deh and DeHackEd v3.1. A better option is to use a Source Port with DeHackEd support - such as: Boom, PRBoom, MBF, SMMU, ZDoom, PrjDoom, Legacy, glLegacy, etc. Simply run GUY2PLY2 by loading the response file. For example: boom @guy2ply2.rsp zdoom @guy2ply2.rsp legacy @guy2ply2.rsp etc. GUY2PLY2 tested okay with: Boom v2.02 PRboom v2.02 MBF v2.03 SMMU v3.21 PrjDoom v0.1 rorDoom (alpha6) Legacy (Win32) v1.28 Legacy (DOS) v1.29pr7 glLegacy v1.29pr7 ZDoom (Win32) v1.22 ZDoomDos v1.17c PLAYING GUY2PLY2 WITH DOOM/DOOM2 LEVELS: --------------------------------------- You can even play GUY2PLY2 with the regular Doom, Ultimate Doom, or Doom2 levels just by deleting the line in the response file which loads guy2ply2.wad (the only things missing will be the new map which is specificly for Doom2, the new music, and a few replacement sounds). For all of the DOS Source Ports, you will need the program IPXBOOM.EXE supplied with the Boom distribution (available from the TeamTNT Web Site - http://www.teamtnt.com). a) delete the line "-FILE GUY2PLY2.WAD" in GUY2PLY2.RSP b) run IPXBOOM from your Doom or Doom2 directory and specify the executable of your source port with the -exe command. For example: Boom v2.02 ipxboom @guy2ply2.rsp MBF v2.03 ipxboom @guy2ply2.rsp -exe mbf SMMU v3.21 ipxboom @guy2ply2.rsp -exe smmu ZDoomDos v1.17c ipxboom @guy2ply2.rsp -exe zdoomdos Legacy (DOS) v1.29pr7 ipxboom @guy2ply2.rsp -exe doom3 rorDoom (alpha6) ipxboom @guy2ply2.rsp -exe alpharor PrjDoom v0.1 ipxboom @guy2ply2.rsp -exe prjdoom c) The WIN32 Source Ports do not require IBXBOOM.EXE. For example: PRboom v2.02 prboom @guy2ply2.rsp -net 1 Legacy (Win32) v1.28 legacy @guy2ply2.rsp -server 1 glLegacy v1.29pr7 gllegacy @guy2ply2.rsp -server 1 ZDoom v1.22 zdoom @guy2ply2.rsp Notes: - each of the source ports have their own little idiocyncracies, so perhaps you could try running GUY2PLY2 with a few different ports. - I can highly recommend Legacy and glLegacy v1.29 which have a unique feature new to this version - you can splatter the walls with copious amounts of blood! - if you use Doom or Ultimate Doom, then to play Episode1 Level1 you need to edit the line in GUY2PLY2.RSP from "-warp 1" to "-warp 1 1" - Doom2 levels are unquestionably harder than Doom1 levels, if there's too many respawning Revenants and Archviles for your liking then either try a lower skill setting, or try GUY2PLY2 with Doom1. The early levels of Doom / Ultimate Doom are a lot of fun with GUY2PLY2. The original text file follows: ================================================================ Title : GUY2PLYR.EXE Author : Mark Hatton Email Address : N/A Misc. BY MARK HATTON INTRODUCTION: If you have played, and enjoyed GUY-TO-PLAYER and you want to know how to make your own GUY-TO-PLAYER levels, this .TXT file will tell you how to do just that. To start with, all you need is: Doom 2, A level editor, A lot of spare time and A good brain. I'm sure that a lot of people will have most of these (I'm not too sure if everyone will have the good brain though!). So, get your reading glasses on, get your cup of coffee, get your brain in motion and get ready to READ!!! THE BASICS: Well, basically if you want to make your own level, you must really have Doom editing experience before hand. I mean, if you've made a nice level (or a bad level) before, then you will be okay, it's just if you've never made a Doom/Doom 2/Heretic level before, then you're going to be in trouble. Now, throughout this .TXT file we will pretend that you have made a Doom/Doom 2/Heretic level before, so then we will get along fine! DOOM 2 EDITOR: I'm sure that the first question on your mind will be "What Doom 2 editor should I use Guv.!?" Well, the answer to that question is... A combination of a few good Doom editors. For making the basic structure of the level, I always use DoomEd - The Real thing (for Windows). This is a very easy to use, but unfortunately it doesn't have as many options or features as most Doom editors. So, instead of using just the one editor, you will have to use more than one. For placing enemies/items/etc. and putting in the platforms, WadEd Version 1.83b is the best. It is quite hard to get the hang of, but once you learn it, it's a very quick and effective editor. For putting in graphics, I always use DmGraph. I hate this program, but unfortunately it's the only graphics editor I've got. It is very hard and slow to use, therefore... It's BAD!!! For putting in sound, I always use DmAud for Windows. This is a pretty good program, it's quite easy to use, and it doesn't take long to use either. For putting all of your bits and pieces together (that's your: Level, Graphics and Sound) WadMan for Windows is a great program to use. It's one of the easiest and quickest programs on the market, and it's just amazing! Well, there you have it... 5 editors all put together to make one level. All of these editors can be found on a wide range of BBS's and I'm sure that they would be on the Internet (if you can find them!) HOW DO I PUT THE GUY-TO-PLAYER GRAPHICS INTO MY LEVEL?: Good question chap!!! Well, this is one of the easiest things you have ever seen, I'm not trying to give away the whole thing, but all GUY-TO- PLAYER really is, is a new .EXE file. Therefore, to run your levels with the new guys in, all you have to do is type: GUY2PLYR -FILE [FILENAME].WAD Well, that's pretty easy isn't it! THE GUYS...: The next important thing you should know is, which guys you can use. GUY-TO-PLAYER replaces the graphics of many enemies in the game, as you already know, and these enemies are: Guy with Rifle: Brown guy. Guy with Shotgun: Indigo (grey) guy. Guy wiht Chaingun: Red guy. Imp: Green guy. MORE ABOUT THE GUYS: Well, now I guess you don't know what sort of gun each guy has, so once again... here's the list! Brown: Pistol. Indigo: Shotgun. Red: Chaingun. Green: Rocket Launcher. WELL, THAT'S ABOUT IT!: That's about all you will need to know... So make a level and be proud of it.
