1¾Title: Melee.WAD Author: Derry Cooke (a.k.a. Dermot Cooke) Email Address: dermot@ihug.co.nz (Email your comments, job offers, pitiful cries for help, unbridled praise, or polite suggestions ;-). Misc. Author Info: 38 yo MWM, with a 486/100. This is my first WAD Description: A warped and twisted WAD, with puzzles, mayhem, a sense of humour... and more mayhem! It has been playtested and is definitely do-able at ultra-violence level without cheating. This new Melee has a number of improvements on the 1997 version. Some cool lighting effects, new music, new areas, new secrets, more interesting (i.e. less boring) use of textures, new gameplay elements and a completely new endgame, which adds another evil puzzle, oodles more carnage, and (if you're good) about another 15 minutes of play to the completion time. ;-) All in all, melee.wad is MUCH more of a challenge now, but STILL 'definitely do-able'. I also managed to track down and kill a few bugs... This 'final release' addresses a design flaw in the last release which made it impossible to find 100% of the secret areas. The secrets are all findable now... go get 'em! The Story (if you want one): In an ultra secure part of the infernal city of Dis, some of Hell's top imp-scientists have been constructing a prototype imp-replicator. If they succeed, Hell will be able to produce infinite numbers of imps and overwhelm Earth with sheer force of numbers. Your mission is to find and assassinate these imp-scientists, destroy the prototype, kill everything else that moves (just for fun) and try to make it out in one piece. The prototype is sure to be securely guarded. An entire squad of marines has already tried and failed to halt this nefarious project. The last communication from them mentioned fiendish puzzles, death-mazes, levitators, time travellers and assorted nasty traps and tricks. To help you on your mission you will be teleported down to the vicinity as the preparations commence for the Grand Melee: an annual slaughterfest held for the amusement of the ruling Cyberdemon pentad. If Hell's armies are focussed on killing each other, perhaps you can complete your mission and get out alive... Additional Credits to: id Software, the Great Goddess, my parents, members of the Academy.. and my wife and son who will be seeing more of me now that Melee is finally finished. Big thank you to the wonderful Ben Morris for the great DCK. Thanks to Dan Teeter for the music from his nifty surreal2.wad and thanks also to Warren Rice who apparently did the midi sequencing. ================================================================ * Play Information * Episode and Level #: DOOM II, level 01 Single Player: Yep (Hooo-Haaa!!!!)
