(maximize this and turn on Word Wrap for best viewing) ------------------------------------------------- Release Date: Saturday, June 20, 1998 ------------------------------------------------- Title: FLSMAP: Combat Education Filename: flsmap.zip Author: Stephen "The Viper" Peterson E-mail: igotgame25@hotmail.com Homepage: The Quake Palace at ===> http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/starcraft/404/ Description: This is my current school (First Lutheran School) made into a Quake level. It's hard to really appreciate it without having been there. It can be played in single player, but since it's small, it gets repetitive. Should be better for, say, a 10-person (or bot) fragfest. PLEASE send me feedback, even if it's only "I played it!" I would love to hear from anyone who played it, especially those that liked it. ZIP file contents: 1. flsmap.bsp (the map itself) 2. flsmap.txt (this text file) 3. story.txt (the FLSMAP story) Additional Credits: id, for making Quake. (No id, No Quake. Simple.) Matthias Worch for the Beyond Belief textures Ben Morris for the outstanding editor Worldcraft (www.worldcraft.com) My family for putting up with all the VISes and hours of editing You, for downloading and playing this level All the visitors to my Web site, The Quake Palace Everyone who has E-mailed me about the site and this level Beta Testers: actually, I did the beta testing myself (which was why it took me so long) -------------------------------------------------- ===> Play Information Stuff <=== -------------------------------------------------- Game: Quake Registered (Duh) Map Name: FLSMAP: Combat Education Single Player: Yes Deathmatch: Sure! (With 9 player spawn points!) Co-Op: Yes (though it really hasn't been Co-op tested that much) Difficulty Settings: No, sorry. There's 115 total monsters in the map, though Quake reports it as 120. This is because the rotfish things count as 2 monsters but 1 kill. So the max you can kill in the map is 115, not 120. -------------------------------------------------- ===> Construction Stuff <=== -------------------------------------------------- Base: Brand-spanking new (from scratch) Editor: Worldcraft Other Programs: None Construction Time: way, way, WAY too long :) Build + Compile Machine: Cyrix 6x86 166 MhZ (no MMX), 48 MB RAM Build Time: QBSP=23.5 minutes VIS -level 4=23.5 hours Light -extra=2.8 hours Texture WAD's: id's (from the Quake episodes), Hipnotic's and Rogue's (from the expansion sets), and the Beyond Belief textures (see the BB homepage at http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/7766/quake.html) Known Bugs: No real "bugs" that I know of. There are a few quirks here and there, misaligned textures, areas that slow down Quake, blah blah. It works fine. -------------------------------------------------- ===> Directions Stuff <=== -------------------------------------------------- 1. Unzip the file flsmap.zip to an appropriately named subdirectory in your Quake folder. (Example: c:\quake\flsmap) 2. Copy (or move) the file flsmap.bsp to c:\quake\id1\maps\. 3. Run Quake. 4. In the console, type "map flsmap" (no quotes) 5. Happy Gibbing!! :) -------------------------------------------------- ===>Total Support<=== -------------------------------------------------- This map was designed from the start with all forms of Quake play in mind. It is compatible with Single Player, Deathmatch, and Cooperative mode. In Deathmatch there are 9 spawn points, so telefragging should not be a problem. All of the weapons are scattered in there, and many are in there in more than one place. There's even a couple great camping spots! (not that I encourage camping!) FLSMAP was not really tested in Co-Op but it should work fine. -------------------------------------------------- ===> Other Stuff <=== -------------------------------------------------- FLSMAP would NOT work with GLQuake on my machine. It kept crashing with an "Error: AllocBloc full" or something. I have a Cyrix P166 equivalent with 48 MB of RAM and a Voodoo II 8MB. If you have some awesome computer that can run it, great, consider yourself lucky. If you do get it to work, mail me with what computer and/or special settings you had it on that it ran. I'd like to know. I'm pretty sure it won't work 'cause of the sheer size of it. I read that you should keep Quake 1 levels under 1500 brushes. This one has around 1630. If you're running regular Quake in Windows, make sure you give it at LEAST 16 MB of memory with -winmem on the command line. FLSMAP has a few spots of bad VISing, or just bad foresight on my part. For instance, many times Quake is prone to having doors disappear temporarily (this happens most often in the Sub-Level). You can easily kill yourself by firing a rocket at point-blank range into a door you thought was open. Be careful, and save often. And in Deathmatch, you can gain an unfair advantage by looking through doors that have disappeared on your screen for bots or people on the other side that CAN'T see you. I know this is annoying, but the VIS did all it could. =) OK, so you didn't like it? Well, consider this: when I first started work on it I was 12 (yeah, that's right, 12) years old. So don't be too hard on it, alright? For those of you who are new to Quake or just don't look for Quake on the 'Net, check out these URL's. They kick butt. The Quake Stomping Grounds (this one's cool) http://www.stomped.com/ Blue's News for Quake (my personal favorite) http://www.bluesnews.com/ Slipgate Central (SO MANY links to other kickin' pages) http://www.slipgatecentral.com/ PlanetQuake (another great site!) http://www.planetquake.com/ The Quake Palace (news, files, links, more!) http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/starcraft/404/ (sorry for the shameless plug) Wow. You read far!! :) --------------------------------------------------- ===> Legal Stuff <=== --------------------------------------------------- You may NOT distribute this level commercially or sell it. This includes putting it on a CD or in a Levels Pack that people buy. You may NOT use this as a base for any other map (though how could you, you don't have the .map version). You MAY distribute this for free over any electronic medium you wish, including Internet/WWW, FTP, Telnet, FIDO, BBS, etc. If you want to put this up on your WWW or FTP site please mail me as I'll include it in a list of mirrors on my Web site. As a general rule, if you want to use this in any way other than just putting it up for free download, mail me first. ----------------------------------------------------
