Capture the Flag Expansion Pack -------------------------------- I was getting tired of playing the same old levels again and again on CTF, so I put together my own pak made up of some of the best CTF modifications you can find on the Internet. I took the sharp graphics from Arena CTF, the great levels from StoggCTF, a couple of levels from around the net, some of the skins people have made, some of the modified sound effects, the L-Fire CTF mod, and put them together with the original CTF levels to make sure there was backwards compatibility...and the CTF expansion pack was created! Mind you none of this was my own. I merely threw together a bunch of what I liked and this is what came out. Some of the people in my clan tested it out and loved it, and encouraged me to post it on the net. Now everyone can finally have some variety in CTF. I sincerely hope this is the case, and that this mod goes the way of vwep, and not the way of all the others. Encourage the servers you play on to use this, so we can get more than a handful of pioneer, who then go back to the old way since not enough people were "encouraged" to use these levels. What's new? ----------- + improved graphics + beefier sounds + 14 levels (and only 1 has the BFG!) + easy vwep support + team balancing + ID of flag carrier + 10 second end of level countdown + high score tracking + score-protection if you lose your connection then reconnect + spectator mode + anti-spamming safeguards (ignore other players) So what is next? ---------------- A couple of things I wanted to add never made it in, mainly because I am not a programmer, just a dabbler. I wanted to give the players an option of four different skins for each team for each id model. Wouldn't it be great if you could have a blue male skin that was different from your teammates, so you could prevent the "clone" look of everyone on your team without having to use a different model(ala LMCTF)? I thought so and started working on this but I just couldn't get anyone to show me how to allow multiple skins in CTF. They are included in the pak, but you can only use the default ctf skin at this time :( Secondly, I wanted to include the damaged skins modification, so you can see the health status of teammates and opponents. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the time to figure out how to use this mod, and I decided not to throw it in when the multiple team skins didn't get the attention they deserved. Alas, maybe someone could make a pak that includes multiple team skins AND the damaged skins for injured players. Now that would be something... Quick Setup ----------- Just replace your old CTF pak0.pak with this one. It has the original CTF files included in it, so don't worry. The display will be digital, the icons crisper, and some of the sounds will be different, but this is still the same CTF. I noticed alot of people have several paks in their CTF directory. I can't recommend deleting them out, but I have a feeling there is a lot of redundancy here. If you move them out of the ctf folder and you don't notice anything wrong after a while, it is probably because the information is repeated in several of the paks. You will need to replace your current gamex86.dll with the L-fire CTF gamex86.dll if you plan on using your machine as a server. Server Configuration -------------------- Same as the original CTF, but I would advise people to look at the L-fire CTF directions for more options. Linux users should download the linux L-Fire at http://yyz.com/LFire The command "set maploop 1" is very important; It allows the server to go through all of the new maps. It is found in the server.cfg file for your convenience. The sample server.cfg file is included for server operators that set default modes. Server operators should just run: quake2 +set game ctf +exec server.cfg Add a "+set dedicated 1" to the command line for dedicated servers. Add a maxclients line to get the maximum number of players you can handle on the server. All the expansion maps included here can fit 24 players comfortably. I am afraid that I have a nasty habit of deleting readme.txt files off of my drive to save space every time I get a "hard drive low on space" message. You all know who you are (Stecky in particular). The Q2 community thanks you for your work.
