Greetings. This program RVIS is a speed enhancment to VIS distributed by iD on the 12th September 96. On the few levels I have tested it on it averages taking about 60% of the time taken by the original, ie. about a 40% speedup. This program and source code modifications may be used with no restriction. It is supplied as a 32 bit Windows executable with source code. The result you get should be near identical the normal VIS. You may notice about a 0.1% difference, if you compare the final VIS array tables, due to floating point accuracy errors. These wont affect the map. We have RVISed large levels without problems. Little source code is changed at the moment, however I hope to optimise the VIS source code further to acheive another 5-10% speedup. To complete the source code set to compile your own you will need "qutils.zip" from ftp.idsoftware.com and all good mirrors like ftp.cdrom.com. Simply drop in the source files from this zip. Why call it RVIS? Well, its a little tradition where I come from. You can rename it if you like. Using RVIS you can keep your old VIS until you are satisfied that RVIS really does work.
