It allows you to create full-blown maps, like those included in Quake. Stoneless offers many features, including CSG subtraction and intersection, advanced texture browser filtering, support for both OpenGL and DirectX, many advanced 3D preview modes (with lighting), templates, built-in wad management, clipboard, multiple undo, merge, density analyis, etc, etc, etc... -- The Stoneless Web Site ------> Visit the Stoneless web site for a list of features, and all the latest information. http://altar.imagixx.net/stoneless/index.html or http://netspace.net.au/~jewsbury/stoneless/index.html -- Documentation ------> See the included stoneless.doc for information on how to use Stoneless. (Please read at least the sections "Quick tips" and "The important stuff"). There's also a Frequently Asked Questions list included - see stoneless.faq -- Requirements ------> To design and test Quake levels with Stoneless, you will require · A high end 486 or greater based PC · For the included QBSP, you'll need a pentium or better · Windows 95 · Enough memory to run Windows 95 (ie: 16Mb+) · Registered Quake · One or more texture wads (an example to start you off is included in the zip) and possibly: · DirectX v3 (see my web page for a download point) I recommend at least 32Mb of RAM to compile a decent sized level, a Pentium, and a fast hardware-accelerated graphics card running with 16bit colour depth. -- Installing ------> To install, simply unzip into a new folder and run Stoneless.exe. Preferably use WinZip, or another unzip that supports Windows95's long filenames. If you do not, you will not be able to double click to open a .xmp. Stoneless will take care of everything itself. -- Special instructions for Windows NT ------> The zip includes two .dll files -> these are OpenGL for Windows 95. If you want to run Stoneless under Windows NT, you should delete opengl32.dll and glu32.dll. There is a special version of Stoneless which doesn't support DirectX, and so you do not need to install DirectX. This version is preferable for Windows NT. See the Stoneless web site for more information. -- Sample maps ------> There are 2 sample maps provided with Stoneless * sample.xmp, an ultra-simple couple of rooms, using the wad file provided with Stoneless. This should show you how to get off the ground, but not how to make maps worth playing... * finalReq.xmp, ("Final Request") a slightly more complicated map, with much better architecture and room structure. This doesn't use the texture wad included with Stoneless - you'll have to use the wad manager to link another wad including the textures from registered Quake to see it properly. -- Included files ------> The following files should be included in the zip light.exe qbsp.exe (Note: pentium required!) vis.exe stoneless.exe (or stonegl.exe for the OpenGL-only version) winwait.exe click.wav Stoneless.doc ctf.qc ents.qc full.qc tf.qc hip.qc custents.qc quake.wad quake.pal opengl32.dll glu32.dll stlsXXX.txt (where XXX is the version number) sample.xmp sample.map finalReq.xmp stoneless.faq keylist.txt groups/lowerE.xmp groups/lowerL.xmp groups/lowerN.xmp groups/lowerO.xmp groups/lowerS.xmp groups/lowerT.xmp groups/upperS.xmp (that is, enough letters to write "Stoneless") If they are not, you may have an inferior copy!
